PRESCOTT B. WINTERSTEEN, JR.  BA, MA, M.Phil.

Prescott Wintersteen has a long association with Asia, particularly Japan and China. After graduation from Harvard College with a BA, magna cum laude, in 1963, with a concentration in Far Eastern Languages and Literatures, Pres continued his education at Yale University. He earned an MA at Yale in 1965 with a major in East Asian Studies and his M.Phil. in 1968 with a major in Japanese history and a minor in Chinese and European history.

While at Yale, Pres was honored with a Yale Institute of Far Eastern Languages Fellowship and a National Defense Foreign Language Fellowship. Mr. Wintersteen also studied at the University of Tokyo's Historiographical Institute on a Fulbright Fellowship in Japanese history from 1965 to 1966 and again on a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship in Japanese history from 1968 to 1970. He has pursued independent study at the University of Pittsburgh's University Center for International Studies, where he has been a Center Associate. Pres Wintersteen has worked in both the academic and business communities since 1970. From 1970 to 1972 he developed and taught Japanese and Chinese history and literature courses at Skidmore College. Beginning in 1972 and continuing through 1987, Pres Wintersteen worked in international banking, first with Mellon Bank in Tokyo and London, then with Equibank and finally with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in both Pittsburgh in New York.

Mr. Wintersteen rejoined the academic community in 1990 when he started the Japanese language program at Duquesne University. In 1991, Pres Wintersteen joined Respironics, Inc. as Director, International Sales, with responsibility for the development of sales and training in Asia, India, Australia/New Zealand, and South America.

Mr. Wintersteen  formed Advanced Voice Recognition, LLC, in 1999.  The company's focus is the application of voice recognition technology to document creation and record management for corporations and the legal and medical professions. In addition, Wintersteen Associates serves as a consultant to business and professional firms doing business in the Pacific Rim and India. Mr. Wintersteen is active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania, and a past member on the Advisory Committee for International Business Majors at Duquesne University’s School of Business and Administration.
